Buying Your First Home For many people, buying their first home is scary. There are forms to sign, and a fair amount of preparation to do before even starting to look at properties. And there's fear about committing to 30 years worth of debt in the form of a mortgage. And there's fear about being responsible for a home's upkeep rather than just calling a landlord or letting mom and dad take care of it. Mostly, this is fear of the unknown. We love working with first time homebuyers. We spend a lot of time discussing the process and what goes on at each step. As your Buyer's agent, a good part of our job is to protect you and guide you through the process. We will constantly remind you about the joys of owning your own home. For example, you can bang nails into the walls to hang pictures without worrying about your landlord. And if you wish to paint your walls a bright chartreuse color, you can. Just as important as this freedom is, there are other benefits to home ownership. Your mortgage interest is deductible on your federal income tax, effectively lowering your Adjusted Gross Income and your taxes due. And year after year and decade after decade, real estate has appreciated in value. While the government doesn't consider your home an investment, it is nice to know that your largest asset will appreciate in value over time. If you are considering your first home purchase, you can download a copy of the Century 21 Commonwealth "A Guide to Buying a Home in Massachusetts" by clicking here. Then, it's time to call us! Every closing is a celebration! |
